Surface Preparation And Coating in Houston

Surface Preparation And Coating

Providing turnkey surface preparation and coating services for the power and oil industries, Houston Dry Ice Blasting provides complete solutions for industrial and manufacturing plants.

The best way to prepare a surface for re-coating or coating is to use dry ice. It is the safest, non-abrasive method of cleaning or removing debris from a surface. The non-abrasive nature of dry ice blasting allows materials like steel, plastic, or rubber to be cleaned without causing damage to the surface. This non-wet cleaning process eliminates the need for time-wasting between cleaning and application of paint. Using dry ice blasting, moisture penetrates deep into the pores, grooves, crevices, or any surface until it makes contact with the deepest objects. Microorganisms, grease, oil, and most other contaminants which damage coated surfaces will be removed by this method. Cleansing the deep surface and removing defects can improve the adhesion and performance of a coating.

When the surface material requires a more rigorous cleaning with profiling, we can also use more abrasive methods of cleaning:

  • Abrasive blast cleaning – The use of abrasive blasting media will remove surface contaminants such as mill scale, rust, paint, and much more. Abrasive blasting is not effective for removing oil, grease, and chemicals.
  • Wet abrasive blasting – Pre-cleaning can be accomplished with low-pressure options and maintenance can be accomplished with high-pressure blasting. The dust concerns associated with dry abrasive blasting make wet abrasive blasting the preferred option in most cases.

Additionally, abrasive material can be added to the blasting solution when necessary.

  • Hand tool cleaning – In areas that can’t be reached with power tools, such as corners and crevices, wire brushes, sandpaper, scrapers, abrasive pads, and chisels are used.
  • Power tool cleaning – Rust and paint are stripped and chipped away with power tools. But it’s possible that you’ll damage some surfaces when using these tools.
